The McDonald's Cheeseburger: Not Healthy. Make Your Own!

Everyone knows fast food is not good for him or her. It is full of calories, fat, sugar, and other unhealthy ingredients. Sill, McDonald's is one of the most popular fast food restaurants in the whole world. They make billions each year selling unhealthy food to Americans. And even though people realize that the food is not the healthiest, they continue to consume it. McDonald's is popular with kids and teens especially. Small children love the Happy Meals and teens are not concerned with how healthy the food is.

A McDonald's cheeseburger has approximately 300 calories on average, 108 of those calories are from fat. It contains 12 grams of fat, 6 grams of which are saturated fat. On average, there are 40 mg of cholesterol in the burger, and an astounding 750 mg of sodium. Now compare that to what the American Heart Association has to say about sodium. According to them, the body only needs a total of 500 mg of sodium each day. In one cheeseburger you have already gone over the amount of sodium you need for the entire day. And that does not even include the french fries which are usually ordered along with the it. A small french fry contains 140 mg of salt.

The burger itself claims to be made of 100% pure beef patty, regular bun, ketchup, mustard, pickle slices, and onions. There is controversy about whether the beef is actually 100% pure beef and where the beef is obtained from. Articles speak about the beef coming from South America which does not have strict laws regulating their food. The other toppings on the cheeseburger, the ketchup, pickles, onions, and mustard do not seem to cause any concern. Gluten intolerant folks cannot consume the burger due to the wheat used in the making of the buns.

When compared to other food McDonald's offers, the cheeseburger probably rates better than most. There are many other food products which carry many more calories and fat than the cheeseburger does such as the Big Mac which has 520 calories. Fast food is not good for you, but if it is only used sparingly as a treat rather than as a frequent place for dinner, one may not have to beat themselves up for visiting.
