Vegetarian Burger Recipes

With a growing number of people opting not to eat meat the number of vegetarian burger recipes around is increasing all the time, yet the skeptics will still ask whether a burger without meat (or more specifically without hamburger) can really be such a thing. The truth is it can, and there are many vegetarian burgers that are extremely tasty indeed.

The use of such meat substitutes as TVP - textured vegetable protein - to make burgers is commonplace, and this is a soya based substance that is actually very healthy indeed. It also tastes great when made into a juicy burger with a variety of vegetables added for taste and means there is no reason a vegetarian should miss out on that summer barbecue experience!

One very popular TVP recipe involves the addition of chili powder and cayenne pepper - a lovely hot and spicy mix - for a burger with a real kick, and in fact there is absolutely no reason why a vegetarian burger cannot use any of the ingredients that are commonly found in hamburger dishes using real meat - bar, of course, the meat itself!

Tomatoes are a popular addition to TVP burgers as is a touch of garlic, while onions mixed into a neatly packed patty which is then broiled slowly in a pan or cooked on an outdoor grill tastes as close to the real thing as you are ever going to get.

Some people concoct a mixture of potato and beans, and these can be very impressive dishes that are favored by meat eaters too. Use black beans for the best flavor and make sure you add a touch of garlic and some salt and pepper, and you have a perfect spicy flavor that also offers a wonderful texture.

The many vegetarian burger recipes offer a variety of tastes and textures that may be as rich and diverse as the standard hamburger, so don't fail to explore what can be done.
